The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures affirms our support for our colleagues and students protesting racist policing and racial inequity at Northwestern and across the United States. We endorse the letters sent by our colleagues in the African American Studies Department on Oct. 15 and Oct. 20, and we stand in solidarity with those struggling to transform Northwestern into an antiracist university that values the lives and contributions of its students, faculty, staff, and community members. We urge President Schapiro and the university administration to engage in constructive and inclusive dialogue with members of the university community and to quickly implement the community’s recommendations to counter anti-Black racism and all forms of racial violence at Northwestern.
