Language Placement

Korean Language Placement Test 2021-22

If you have no previous knowledge of Korean and want to start Korean language at Northwestern, register for Korean 111-1 without a placement test.

Who needs to take the Korean placement test?

The above apply to all students in all schools and programs, including graduate and professional schools.

What does the Korean placement test look like?

There are two forms in the placement test: Online test and Validation test

How do you take the Korean placement test?

The whole test will be administered online for the time being.  Go to the online test http://placement-test.mmlc.northwestern.edu/ at the designated dates. Once you enter the test, you have to finish it within 2 hours. You cannot re-enter it since you are allowed to take the test only once. The online test result will initially show as “Validation Required” on the same test site since the validation test is required to complete the placement process. The validation test will be taken via Zoom on the designated dates.

When will the Korean placement test take place?

First Placement and Validation Session

Incoming students should take the placement test by June 4th. Also, returning students are encouraged to take the placement test by this deadline to ensure the test results earlier for planning fall schedules. All times listed below are CDT.

June 14, June 15, June 16

Second Placement and Validation Session

Late test takers should take the online test and the validation test scheduled as below.  All times listed below are CDT.

September 2, September 3

Where will the placement test result be posted?

The placement result will be posted on the same site where you take the online test.

Special note

Placement for winter 2022: By appointment only.
